COVID-19 has caused a great many fintech conferences to be either cancelled or turned into virtual events.
COVID-19 has had a major impact on the line up of fintech conferences for the remainder of 2020. In what follows I take stock of the most important conferences for the Fall.
Finovate Digital Fall (Sep 14-18)
Finovate Fall was supposed to take place in New York City, but has now been turned into a digital event. The organizer expects 1,600+ global attendees, and 120+ expert speakers are lined up.
Money 20/20 Europe (Sep 22-24)
Money 20/20 is taking place in Amsterdam as scheduled. Some measures will be taken to have the conference take place as safely as possible.
Among the measures taken are wider aisles, floor markings in places where queues may form, and an increased number of registration points. Another important measure that will help with social distancing is that the organizer will cap attendance at 4,000 people which is more than a third smaller than last year’s edition.
Sibos (Oct 5-8)
Sibos, the conference organized by SWIFT, has been cancelled for this year. Sibos was slated to take place in Boston. The next edition of Sibos is now scheduled for October 11-14, 2021 and will take place in Singapore.
Sibos has communicated on its website that it is exploring options to organize a digital event of sorts, though what that will entail exactly is still to be confirmed.
Money 20/20 USA (Oct 25-28)
Just as is the case with Money 20/20 Europe, Money 20/20 USA will take place as scheduled, with safety measures in place.
This year’s event will see attendance capped at 6,000 attendees. Other measures that will be in place are detailed cleaning procedures across the show, increased self-service stations for registration points, floor markers where lines may form and two-way traffic routes alongs aisles.
Singapore Fintech Festival (Nov 9-13)
The annual Singapore Fintech Festival is currently scheduled to take place as planned. We can expect that special measures will be put in place to safeguard attendees.
FinovateWest Digital (Nov 23-25)
The plans for this conference have changed a few times. First FinovateSpring was pushed back to the Fall and rebaptized FinovateWest. The original intent was to still have the conference take place in San Francisco. In the latest iteration the organizer has now decided to turn the conference into a digital event.
FinovateWest Digital is counting on having 120+ speakers and welcoming 1,100+ senior attendees.
